"Music for Orchestra" was commissioned in 1970 by Leonard Slatkin for the Saint Louis Symphony
"Christus Apollo" was commissioned in 1969 by the California Chamber Symphony
"Fireworks" (A Celebration of Los Angeles) was composed in 1999 for the finale of Goldsmith's first concert series with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl
